Today i’m in New York City doing something I love — small business consulting. Although I love the big city and a little me time — being away from my family is tough.
As a small business owner, you’ve more than likely struggled with the never ending game of trying to find a balance between your work and family life. You’ve also probably figured out by now that it’s a tough — if not impossible game to win.
Throw travel in there and you’re really off balance. Taking the time to stay connected with you family during your travels can greatly reduce stress and make the whole process seem less painful.
When I travel, I make it a point to Skype or Facetime with my family. This gives me an opportunity to see my boys and for them to see me. Plus…they think it’s cool that i’m talking to them through the computer.
This may seem like a small thing, but taking the time to connect with your family can be very beneficial. There are many services out there for video calling, but I like Skype because it’s free and easy to use. If you have an iPhone and wireless connection, Facetime’s a great option.
Either way — it’s important to remember that it’s the little things that count and a simple 5 minute video chat with you family might make your being away not seem so bad.
