Girrrllll. GREAT GREAT post and so true. Went to China last year too and I was so nervous. I loved every moment I was there. Thank you for reminding us the benefits of getting out of our comfort zone! It is amazing what “fear” can do if we let it win!

I think you have a fabulous idea in letting your son pick the adventure you go on together. I need to impliement this idea with my five year little boy. We did a vacation geared around train rides, hikes outside, and throwing rocks into the lake with him this past summer and there was plenty of down time for grownups. He had a blast making “choices” for the three of us and quite frankly, we enjoyed the break from making “choices” tho be it smaller ones.

My husband and I have also taken our older children out for dinner and a little shopping for their birthdays once they reached the teenage years. That has been a special time to catch up and really have good focused conversation. I so enjoy your blog. Keep those inspiring ideas coming my way!

Hello Esther and thanks for your comments. Those are great ideas! Today he threw his “special” toy, so now I have to think about that one. Hopefully this will pass soon. He has been attending for almost 6 months and some days are better than others.

We had this happen in preK and the solution (for us) had several parts. First we observed that there was a bully bothering him during the unstructured portion of the morning while the children were arriving. We brought this to the attention of the teachers and tried to coach him through some strategies for dealing with her. We also (on the teacher’s suggestion) let him bring his favorite little toy to class with him to help “keep him company.” Leaving quickly but no secretly was important too. Within a couple weeks he was back to his normal happy-to-go-to-school self.
